We, at Ilia State University aim to provide high quality Georgian and International studies with an emphasis on research and practical application of academics for the good of the Student and the Country.

Ilia State University seeks to integrate into the international educational community with the goal of finding our niche among the top Eastern European Universities by creating and spreading new knowledge. To do so, ISU places great emphasis on a research-centered approach while providing a conducive learning environment and opportunities for professional growth. 

We focus on giving students opportunities that create skills transformable to their future professions, which is essential in developing a knowledge-based society. By experiencing research, students at ISU are actively engaged in the learning process, which gives them ownership over their education and ability to reason and learn independently. The value of an Education received in such a setting brings benefits to an individual and to the society and creates an opportunity for success. This kind of scholarly advancement at Ilia State University directly translates into the development and growth of the nation.

The unique institutional capacity of ISU is reflected first in the quality of academic staff and the research conducted in the areas relative to Georgia’s geopolitical standing and social, political and cultural development; and second in its distinctive ability to initiate an open, unbiased public policy discussion.

ISU aims to fill the gaps in all areas of scientific research in Georgia. Achieving and maintaining competitiveness in the research field is extremely important for our university and with major research conducted at Ilia State, Georgia is increasingly gaining international recognition.  To reach this goal, ISU  allocates a large percentage of its annual budget for research. Guided by three core areas constituting the “Research Triangle”- Georgian Studies, Fundamental Sciences and International Research, ISU faculty actively engage in cross-national projects.
